Sandra has joined the Cal-Pro-NET program in December 2017 and is looking forward to the exciting field of school nutrition supporting the partnership between the California Department of Education and Cal-Pro-NET Center at San Jose State University in nutrition and food service education programs and resources for school districts.
Currently, Sandra is a Health Coach in the Stanford Healthy Heart Study. She has experience as a Health Coach in Corporate Wellness teaching healthy lifestyle and behavior changes through biometric screening results, including food and wellness demonstrations.
Sandra worked as a Registered Dietitian Nutrition Coach for the Energy Balance for Kids with Play program in West Contra Costa Unified School District through a grant funded by the Association of Nutrition & Dietetics. She worked in medical diagnostics clinical research for Abbott Laboratories in Dallas and Chicago.
Sandra earned her BS degree in Biology at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas. She completed her Master’s Degree in Nutritional Science and became a Registered Dietitian at San Jose State University.

Melinda Yu is a Nutrition Education Consultant (NEC) with the
California Department of Education (CDE), Nutrition Services Division. She
oversees projects related to the nutrition and food service education
programs and resources for school districts and other School Nutrition
Program sponsors. Currently, she coordinates the partnership with the CDE
and the California Professional Nutrition and Education Training
(Cal-Pro-NET) Center at San Jose State University.
Melinda earned her
Master's degree in Nutrition at Case Western Reserve University in
Cleveland, Ohio and has 21 years of experience as a registered dietitian
working in public health nutrition and education in state and local
nutrition programs. Prior to her work as an NEC, Melinda worked with the
California Department of Public Health's Nutrition Education and Obesity
Prevention Program managing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) grants in the greater Los Angeles area and the
Women, Infant, and Children Program managing the Nutrition Services Section.

Ashwini Wagle earned her doctoral degree (Ed.D) in Educational Leadership at University of New England and her MS in Food and Nutrition from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). She came to San Jose State University with over ten years' experience as a registered dietitian (RD) in several skilled nursing facilities and acute care hospitals in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Her basic areas of interest and research are food and culture, especially traditional health beliefs, practices, and food behaviors for multiple ethnic populations, especially South Asians; food insecurity and hunger; and foodservice systems.
She received the Outstanding Faculty award by the Department of Nutrition, Food Science and Packaging Student Club for seven consecutive years for her work with students. Teaching is a very demanding and challenging profession, but the rewards of success cannot be measured. Ashwini Wagle has devoted the past eleven years of her professional life to SJSU because she believes in, and supports, the mission of this university.
